Case Studies
1. Flushing head seal usage
At an Underground mine in regional South Australia, our client was lucky to achieve a 12 hour shift out of the flushing head seals fitted to the drifters. Excess hose length used on the floating water box was causing excess pressure to be exerted on the inside of the housing which in turn resulted in the landing for the retaining ring to be worn out very quickly. The retaining ring was falling out which was cutting the inner lip of the seals.
After all rigs were fitted with the correct length water hose and new water boxes, the seal life increased to 3-4 days. After further analysis and monitoring, the material the seals were made of was found to be of inferior quality. WillGelm Maintenance Solutions worked with the drifter supplier and suggested a trial of an alternative material.
Results were recognised almost immediately with the seals lasting the full week and now been changed on service day rather than costing the client in excess of 6 hours additional downtime per rig per week.
2. Airmist on Atlas M2D Jumbo
At an Underground mine in regional South Australia, our client was developing through an area which had a fault in the ground, they were having alot of trouble installing bolts in he ground as the holes were frequently washing and belling out.
WillGelm Maintenance Solutions recommended a simple Airmist system to minimise hole washout. The client contacted the OEM to price fitting an Airmist system which turned out to be a very expensive. We offered a cost effective solution that had very minor modifications to the drill rig and cost less than $500.
After this modification was installed, our client decreased their bolting cycle for consecutive months from 6 hours to 2 hours which allowed them more time to use the drill rig to bore faces.
